Valentine’s Day is such a fun holiday. Who doesn’t enjoy celebrating love? Not only does this holiday provide opportunities to participate in beautiful Valentine’s Day activities, but you can also spend time nurturing your relationship with your child and empowering their self-love.

Valentine’s Day Activity #1: Mosaic Hearts

My kids loved doing this activity, and as a bonus, we used up a lot of our scrap paper that was lying around.

Materials

  • Black Construction Paper
  • Colored/Decorated Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Directions

  1. Help your child cut out a large heart from the black construction paper.
  2. Invite your child to use the colored/decorated paper to cut out different shapes to glue on their black heart to make a mosaic design.

Valentine’s Day Activity #2: Candy Box STEM Challenge

This was my kids’ favorite Valentine’s Day Activity. I challenged them to design a heart shaped candy box that fit no more, and no less than 5 heart shaped Reese Peanut Butter Cups. The candy could not be stacked on top of each other. All 5 had to be laying flat inside the box, and the box had to open and close. This would be a fun activity to repeat every year just to see how their critical thinking skills have improved over the years.

Materials

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Heart Shaped Candy

Directions

  1. Lay out all the materials and explain the challenge to your child.
  2. Give your child one piece of candy. They can only use one piece to estimate how big their box needs to be in order to fit 5 pieces inside.
  3. Invite your child to create their box.
  4. When they finish, test out the box. Make sure only 5 pieces of candy fit inside, and make sure the box opens and closes.

Valentine’s Day Activity #3: Pieces of My Heart

Help amp up your child’s self-love by talking about all the things they love to do. To brainstorm, you can make a chart that says I Can…, I Am…, and I Have… Invite your child to fill in the blanks with 3-4 words for each prompt.

Once you brainstorm some ideas, invite your child to choose a few of the things they love and the things they love about themselves to draw on their Pieces of My Heart puzzle. Click here to download the worksheet. When you’re finished, cut out the pieces and invite your child to put the puzzle back together.

Valentine’s Day is such a fun time to express your love for each other and celebrate the things you love about yourself. Snuggle up on the couch to read some of these favorite Valentine’s Day books, then pull out the art supplies to celebrate even more with these fun Valentine’s Day activities.
